Week 2 insight
Not everything needs to be decluttered
Those objects that bring you tremendous joy, regardless of how often you use them, not practical they are, or if others consider them to be declutterable can stay. If you are actively decluttering all other areas of your home and your life, and thus "to be trusted" not to hold on to extras out of fear, then this will work for you.
I have decluttered 1,000 objects in January of 2020. And this August I am making a committment to declutter 500 more. I am decluttering clothes, shoes, my kids toys, old projects and creations, and kitchen gadgets. However, one thing i WILL NOT declutter is my books! Marie Kondo, as do some other experts, say that physical books should be decluttred. That having a set number of books (I believe she said it was 20 or 40 is plenty) and that the rest can be on a Kindle, taken from the library, or purchased again if really needed. This makes lots of logical sense. However, my book collection is my source of pleasure and wealth. The first thing I unpack when moving into a new house (and we have moved 4x in the past 10 years) is my book collection. Before I even set up my kitchen, or my kids toys, or the living room, I build my bookstand and organize my books.
Because I have successfully decluttered other "stuff", and plenty of it, I feel like I am to be "trusted" to keep my book collection out of love for it vs. out of fear of letting go off stuff.
I would love to know if any of this resonates with you. Please leave a comment. And check back next week for new insights.
